[NaPoWriMo Poetry- 5] ” A Night on the Machan”

Prologue

Love and duty are a dilemma. One is dream the other a reality.

One is destination the other a path. Contrariwise. What would you,

rather choose?

10:00 PM

Ten hours till end of duty.

I tossed restlessly on the hay

to switch between thoughts.

But she was constant;

the sovereign over my dreams.

The night was dark like her pearl eyes.

A lantern of faint memories

my only light.

I wonder; if she was awake too,

thinking about me.

12:00 AM

Eight hours till end of duty.

The sky had turned angry and

the thunder was roaring.

At every flash of lighting,

I sighted her face with a smile.

She was my calm.

I wonder; if she was awake too,

thinking about me.

2: AM

Six hours till end of duty

I heard the jackal’s howl,

warning of a wild beast around.

I was protecting this forest enchanted with beauty,

I was protected by my enchantress of beauty.

I wonder; if she was awake too, thinking about me.

4:00 AM

Four hours till end of duty

A gust of wind blew, with a scent of her charm.

Whispered her voice and held me around her arm.

I wonder; if she was awake too, thinking about me.

6:00 AM

Two hours till end of duty.

I wonder if she was awake too, thinking about me.

8:00 AM

Epilogue

When duty ends, it is love which is

my honour, my peace,

my soulmate in solitude.
